About this Event
Two Day Course
“MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.” (Miller & Rollnick, 2013, p. 29).
This approach originated in the two authors work with substance-using clients in the early 1980’s. It has, over the last 40 years developed and adapted to be relevant to many different contexts and client situations, in fact any scenario where when you have to have a difficult or potentially challenging conversation with someone about a behaviour they are reluctant to change, talk or do anything about, or where the person finds it hard to take responsibility or consider consequences.
MI is both a person-centred AND directional approach. More than a ‘technique’ with associated ‘tools’ to use, and unlike a more ‘prescriptive’ approach, working motivationally is a way of being with people that enhances their own motivation for change.
In child and family settings this approach can guide workers to have more productive conversations with family members which can contribute to the safety and well-being of children and the whole family.
This course will give you:
- A clear understanding of the goals, concepts, processes, and skills of Motivational Interviewing.
- The opportunity to practice and refine the skills with pre-prepared scenarios and your own material.
- The ability to identify, encourage and respond to the different kinds of language that may predict behaviour change.
- The understanding of how both workers and clients can contribute to ‘discord’ in the relationship (formerly described as ‘resistance’).
- A chance to reflect on how this approach can be utilised in a range of child and family conversations/settings and the confidence to put it into practice in your work ‘world’.
There will be a range of small group and larger group exercises and case discussions, film excerpts and tutor demonstration. Come prepared to work hard but also have fun!

Cwrs Deuddydd
“Mae MI yn arddull cyfathrebu cydweithredol, sy’n canolbwyntio ar nodau, gyda sylw arbennig i iaith newid. Fe’i cynlluniwyd i gryfhau cymhelliant personol ar gyfer nod penodol ac ymrwymiad iddo trwy ennyn ac archwilio rhesymau’r person ei hun dros newid o fewn awyrgylch o dderbyn a thosturi.” (Miller & Rollnick, 2013, t. 29).
Deilliodd y dull hwn o waith y ddau awdur gyda chleientiaid a oedd yn defnyddio sylweddau ar ddechrau’r 1980au. Dros y 40 mlynedd diwethaf mae wedi datblygu ac addasu i fod yn berthnasol i lawer o wahanol gyd-destunau a sefyllfaoedd cleient, mewn gwirionedd unrhyw senario lle mae’n rhaid i chi gael sgwrs anodd neu a allai fod yn heriol gyda rhywun am ymddygiad y maent yn amharod i’w newid, siarad. neu wneud unrhyw beth yn ei gylch, neu lle mae'r person yn ei chael hi'n anodd cymryd cyfrifoldeb neu ystyried canlyniadau.
Mae MI yn ddull person-ganolog A chyfeiriadol. Yn fwy na ‘thechneg’ gydag ‘offer’ cysylltiedig i’w defnyddio, ac yn wahanol i ddull mwy ‘rhagnodol’, mae gweithio’n gymhellol yn ffordd o fod gyda phobl sy’n gwella eu cymhelliant eu hunain dros newid.
Mewn lleoliadau plant a theuluoedd gall y dull hwn arwain gweithwyr i gael sgyrsiau mwy cynhyrchiol ag aelodau o'r teulu a all gyfrannu at ddiogelwch a lles plant a'r teulu cyfan.
Bydd y cwrs hwn yn rhoi:
- Dealltwriaeth glir o nodau, cysyniadau, prosesau a sgiliau Cyfweld Cymhellol.
- Y cyfle i ymarfer a mireinio'r sgiliau gyda senarios a baratowyd ymlaen llaw a'ch deunydd eich hun.
- Y gallu i adnabod, annog ac ymateb i'r gwahanol fathau o iaith a allai ragweld newid ymddygiad.
- Y ddealltwriaeth o sut y gall gweithwyr a chleientiaid gyfrannu at ‘anghytgord’ yn y berthynas (a ddisgrifiwyd yn flaenorol fel ‘gwrthiant’).
- Cyfle i fyfyrio ar sut y gellir defnyddio’r dull hwn mewn ystod o sgyrsiau/lleoliadau plant a theuluoedd a’r hyder i’w roi ar waith yn eich ‘byd’ gwaith.
Bydd amrywiaeth o ymarferion mewn grwpiau bach a grwpiau mwy a thrafodaethau achos, darnau o ffilm ac arddangosiad gan diwtor. Dewch yn barod i weithio'n galed ond hefyd i gael hwyl!
