Join us for a summer morning exploring the moths and butterflies of the New Forest. We will begin with coffee and home-made biscuits before opening the moth traps to have a look at what’s been flying overnight. With over 2,500 species of moth in the UK, and the New Forest recognised as one of the richest areas in the country for moth diversity, this is a rare opportunity to look closely at species you might otherwise never see.
As the day warms, we will walk through field, woodland edge, grassland and wetter areas on site, linking species to landscape and plant diversity. The morning will include walking the 2.5 km butterfly transect at Tilefield, part of an ongoing weekly monitoring programme.
