Mostly Baroque is a South Florida-based instrumental ensemble that has been active in Miami since 1997. They are dedicated to historically informed performances of the music of Bach, Handel and Vivaldi, among other baroque composers.
On February 26, the festival opens with J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 2, 3 and 4. The opening night will also see a performance of GP Telemann’s Don Quichotte suite, which South Florida Classical Review described as “imbued with charm.”
On February 27, rising concert artist and composer Johan Hartman will perform Gerald Finzi’s Let Us Garlands Bring (a setting of five Shakespeare songs), along with the Don Quixote songs of Jacques Ibert (written for the 1933 film). The program will also feature several original song cycles from Hartman’s debut album, Blood and the Moon.
On March 1, the festival concludes with Mostly Baroque’s critically acclaimed production of Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona, a light and charming comedic opera about a servant’s plan to become the master of the house, starring Hartman and Yi-Chun Sarah Tsai. "[Their] stylish and bright delivery consistently enchanted the ear," South Florida Classical Review raved.
