About this Event

Dates: Daily Monday - Friday

Time: 8.40-8.55am

Location: St George's Hanover Square, St George Street, W1

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8:40, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.

As always admission is free.

Korean American pianist Seoyun Baek began her musical journey at the age of seven, studying with Kijung Han at the Korean National Institute for Gifted in Arts, a program dedicated to nurturing the country’s most promising young artists. She made her orchestra debut just two years later with the Oistrakh Symphony Orchestra in Chicago as the winner of the DePaul Concerto Competition, and performed on WFMT, Chicago’s premier classical radio station, as part of the winner’s showcase broadcast.

Seoyun is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Alan Chow. She is also a graduate of the Music Institute of Music Academy program and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music in London with Norma Fisher.

Highlights for the 2024–25 season include the Korea Peace Day Concert at the DMZ, symbolizing hope for peace between South and North Korea. The concert emphasized unity and global peace, promising the potential for reconciliation in this historically tense region. In addition, Seoyun will give a recital in Korea in August, followed by a recital in London at St. Pancras Church in September.
