Most people correlate domestic/intimate partner violence (D/IPV) with black eyes or broken bones, but the reality is it encompasses a wide range of behaviors and impacts beyond physical bruises. D/IPV includes emotional abuse, psychological manipulation, financial control, and sexual coercion. These forms of abuse can be just as damaging and long-lasting as physical violence, affecting a person’s self-esteem, mental health, and overall well-being.Putting an end to violence means being able to recognize it in all it’s forms. To help raise awareness and educate the public, Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland & Perry Counties (DVSCP) is holding a panel event on Thursday, September 24 at the Cumberland County Historical Society in Carlisle to recognize the many aspects of domestic violence and how we can all play a part to support those in need.
Hear from our expert panelists as they share their own unique experiences working with survivors. They’ll offer insight on how prevalent this issue is in our community, what happens when a victim contacts the police, and why victims often return to their abuser.
Event Schedule:
Free Refreshments: 5:30 pm
Panel Discussion: 6:00-7:30 pm
Walk to the square: 7:30 pm
The panel will be co-moderated by Cumberland County Commissioner Jean Foschi and DVSCP’s Direct Services Supervisor Stephanie Spurgeon.
