About this Event
Join us in kicking off the Moral Courage partnership in Kalamazoo!
Join us for an extraordinary kickoff event as Western Michigan University launches a groundbreaking partnership with Moral Courage® College—the nation's first program where Division I student-athletes will mentor high school students in essential dialogue and leadership skills. Featuring acclaimed educator and Oprah award-winner Irshad Manji alongside WMU President Kavalhuna, WMU Athletics, and the Kalamazoo Promise, this event will introduce this new partnership and mentorship program. Beginning Fall 2026, athletes at WMU will have the opportunity to undergo the Moral Courage training and become certified mentors to students in Kalamazoo Public Schools.
The Moral Courage program teaches five transformative skills proven to reduce anxiety, strengthen resilience, and turn polarized conversations into meaningful connections. Whether you're a student, educator, community leader, or simply someone who wants to see Kalamazoo become America's true "Education City," this is your chance to witness the launch of a program that will equip our student-athletes to become certified Moral Courage Mentors and create lasting impact in our schools and community. Don't miss this powerful moment where sports, education, and social change converge—come see how WMU is pioneering a new model for constructive dialogue and building the next generation of leaders.
