Please join us at 7 pm on February 2nd to close the Christmas Season with the Feast of Candlemas, forty days after Christmas.(Note - there is no 8 am Mass on Feb 2nd)
Candlemas is also known as the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord and was previously called the Purification of Mary.
*You may bring your own 100% beeswax candles to receive the special Candlemas blessing or blessed candles will be available for a donation after the Candlemas.
Please note - It is customary to have 100% beeswax candles blessed.*
Holy Mass will begin with a Solemn Entrance and candles will be blessed.
This solemn procession represents the entry of Christ, who is the light of the world, into the Temple of Jerusalem.
It was also traditional on this day that all the Church's candles for the year were blessed.
After the blessing the candles are taken home and kept all through the year as cherished sacramentals, to be lighted during storms and lightning, in sickrooms, and at the bedside of dying persons.
The candles are also reminders of the Light of Christ and how Mary can guide us through the darkness of our lives.
