About the Moose Hide Campaign
The Moose Hide Campaign began as a deeply personal act on the Highway of Tears, a stretch of road in British Columbia where Indigenous women have gone missing and been murdered for decades.
A father and his daughter, driving that highway, stopped to hunt a moose. The moose hide was tanned and two sisters were moved to cut it into 25,000 small squares with 25,000 handwritten cards and hand them to men as a tangible symbol of a sacred commitment, to stand up against violence against women and children.
What began as a grassroots act between a father and daughter has grown into one of Canada's most powerful Indigenous-led movements. Today, millions of moose hide pins have been shared across the country. Each pin a quiet, carried promise.
Gender-based violence disproportionately impacts Indigenous women, girls, and 2-Spirit people. The Moose Hide Campaign is a call from Indigenous communities, and an open invitation to all of us, to do better, together.
What to Expect
We are deeply honored to welcome Indigenous Elders and community members who will help us hold this day with the reverence, wisdom and spirit it deserves.
Together, we will
· Walk 1 km in solidarity - a collective stand against violence in our community
· Make our commitments to action - because solidarity without commitment is only a gesture
· Sit in circle - to listen deeply, to learn, and to be present
· Share a traditional meal of stew and bannock - for those who have been fasting in ceremony, this meal marks the sacred breaking of that fast
· Receive a Moose Hide pin - if you don't already have one, pins will be available so every person leaves carrying the commitment
A Note on Participation
You do not need to be Indigenous to participate. This movement is rooted in Indigenous ceremony, community and leadership, and it calls all of us, of every background, to show up.
Healthier, safer and more connected communities are built when we stand together.
We ask all participants to arrive with openness, kindness and community in their hearts.
This is a kid-friendly event. The spirit of gathering is one of hope and healing. However, the topic of gender-based violence is serious and heavy. We encourage parents and caregivers to have a conversation with children ahead of time about the significance of what we are honoring and why it matters.

· Location | West River's Edge, Fort Saskatchewan (Accessible venue )
· Tickets | Free, a donation to support the work is warmly welcomed.
· Meal |Traditional stew and bannock will be served. (Please note out of respect for traditional food preparation, we are unable to accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions.)
· Weather | Rain or shine, dress for the elements, outdoor fires will be maintained as long as weather permits
