Russ Marland (Out In The Sticks)
Russ Marland has been at the heart of Manchester’s underground house scene since the mid-1980s. Starting out at Spin Inn Records, he played a key role in introducing U.S. house imports to local DJs as the sound first landed on UK shores.
As a DJ, Russ built a reputation as a trusted tastemaker, playing iconic venues including the Haçienda (as Mike Pickering’s warm-up DJ from ’91–’94), as well as Blackpool’s Oz / Maceys and clubs across the North West.
In 1994, he founded Out In The Sticks at The Bluenote in Todmorden — a weekly house night that ran until 2003 and became a much-loved staple of the Northern club scene. After a short hiatus, the night returned at The Golden Lion, where it still runs every few months — now in its 31st year.
Through decades spent in legendary record shops like Spin Inn, Manchester Underground, and Vinyl Exchange, alongside his DJ residencies, Russ has helped shape the sound of house music in the North West.
Expect a laid-back session of Disco, Deep, Soulful & Funky House from a true original.
