Hear the science behind lunar phases and moon observations for Eid. Observe astrophysical objects such as planets and stars.
About this Event

Join us in the Enderby Lecture Theatre for an evening of astronomy as we observe the new crescent Moon, marking the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid al-Fitr.

During the session we will explore the science behind lunar phases, how the new Moon is observed, and why different countries sometimes celebrate Eid on different days. Weather permitting, participants will also have the opportunity to observe planets, star clusters and other night-sky objects through the University of Bristol telescopes.

Visitors will be able to speak with astrophysicists and members of the student astronomy society (CHAOS) about the night sky, how the telescopes work, and what astronomers observe.

Light refreshments will be provided.
