Learn about the exciting new revelations concerning the gut microbiome and its role in the prevention of anxiety and depression.
About this Event

With more and more research acknowledging the links between mood and behavioural disorders, it's important for anyone working with those affected by these conditions to be as informed as possible.

The NHS recognises that depression is caused by changes in levels of chemicals in the brain. One such chemical is serotonin - 90% of which is produced in the gut! This underlines that a healthy digestive system is important for mental wellbeing.

Join leading holistic nutritionist Alison Cowell at this informative workshop to learn how food can affect mood, behaviour, anxiety, stress, sleep and hormonal balance. Alison will also reveal exciting new revelations concerning the gut microbiome and its role in the prevention of anxiety and depression.

In addition, there will be a discussion around our relationship with food and how it can trigger guilt and shame, leading to anxiety and stress. Alison will also share information on the Gut-Brain axis and the importance of the microbiome.

There will be plenty of opportunities to share experiences and explore solutions.

Aims

  • To raise awareness of how nutrition plays an important role in the prevention or management of mood disorders.
  • Highlight common medications that can trigger low moods.
  • Provide knowledge regarding signs and signals that may indicate nutritional deficiencies, allowing delegates to have a more in-depth understanding of their client’s overall wellbeing.

This event will be beneficial to anyone with an interest on the impact food has on our mood and mental wellbeing. From parents worried about children’s behaviour (including ADHD) to those caring for parents with dementia, this workshop reveals some fascinating facts and many useful tips to take away.

Presenter

Alison Cowell is a health coach, holistic nutritionist, author and speaker.

After serving 30 years with the UK government where her roles included policy and strategy, Alison emigrated to New Zealand where she founded Healthy Eating Ltd, a hugely successful nutrition consultation business, with over 10,000 happy clients as living examples. She also created and led the Hawke’s Bay Health Collaborative, and designed and presented an award winning radio show.

Alison’s vast knowledge and experience, together with her ability to make even the most complex of topics understandable has led her to being a respected international speaker.

From many large organisations including Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs in the UK, to the Napier Port, Pan Pac and NZ Police in New Zealand, Alison is able to engage with diverse audiences due to her interesting and entertaining delivery.

Having overcome a severely debilitating health condition herself, Alison is absolutely passionate about educating and inspiring people to take control of their health by providing knowledge and choices.

With qualifications in conventional and holistic nutrition as well as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), she can identify and address the underlying causes of health issues rather than merely treating the immediate symptoms.

Now back in the UK to be with her elderly parents, she continues to spread her knowledge through:

  • community and work-based health awareness presentations
  • mentoring
  • fund raising events
  • publishing books on a variety of health topics
  • blogging
  • Alison’s message: Knowledge – Choice - Consequence
