About this Event

Join us monthly for an herb walk at our South Chicago Farm!

Led by UGC staff and Herbalism Apprentices in conjunction with the Herbalism Conductor, Kim Crutcher, these gatherings are offered as a space for learning to identify and work with both wild and cultivated plants. In this community exchange we will share knowledge, stories, and folklore about growing and working with herbs. So, put on your farm appropriate apparel ,and bring your curiosity to this communal space.

Note: Constellation 2 Herbalism Apprentices should not RSVP here. Other Constellations must RSVP to attend.

***PREP & ARRIVAL***

All participants must sign our Liability, Theft, and Photo release waiver at least once per season: LINK

Please plan to arrive ten minutes early to check-in at the Welcome Table visible from the entrance before heading onto the farm to join the tour. A UGC representative will greet you at the Welcome Table.

***DONATIONS***

  • We ask for a $20 offering per adult, and $5 for children.
  • We ask for a $12 offering for UGC apprentices, interns, and neighbors (zip codes 60617, 60620)
  • UGC staff do not need to RSVP; just let Kim know you're planning to attend.
  • Constellation 2 Herbalism Apprentices should not RSVP here.

***MUSIC***

This year's herb walk series will use Tracy Chapman’s 1995 album New Beginning for inspiration. This album was ahead of its time in exploring the climate crisis with descriptions of ecological devastation contrasted with expressions of hope. In 2023, the Folk musician experienced a resurgence in her popularity when her 1988 Grammy winning song Fast Car was remade by Country singer Luke Combs. A new audience has discovered Chapman’s ability to write songs evocative of complex social challenges. Please join our herbalism community in celebrating the resilience of both humans and nature.
