About this Event
The Kansas City Kansas Community College *Blue Devil Funk Band is one of the showcase ensembles from KCKCC's renowned Music Department. The band has earned a DownBeat Student Music Award* and has twice performed on the New Voices Stage at the Jazz Education Network Conference, along with appearances at the Kansas Music Educators In-Service Workshop and various jazz festivals.
The ensemble is directed by Dr. Justin Binek (Music Theory and Commercial Music), with Professor Chris Hazelton (a Blue Room regular and B-3 Organ/Jazz Improvisation faculty member at KCKCC) assisting. That depth of mentorship shows up in the music — these students aren't just learning jazz, they're playing it at a level that's drawn national attention.
Monday Night Jam features a 45-minute featured set followed by an open jam session. Bring your instrument, come listen, or both. FREE admission.
