About this Event
The Blue Room's Monday Night Jam brings together two Kansas City favorites: Hammond B-3 organist Chris Hazelton and jazz vocalist Emily Dix.
Chris Hazelton is one of today's foremost Hammond B-3 organists. A lifelong Kansas Citian, he studied under two giants of the instrument — local legend Everette DeVan and the iconic Dr. Lonnie Smith. Their influence shapes his approach: gospel, hard bop, and funk blended into a sound both rooted and forward-looking. Hazelton performs widely with his own organ groups and is a featured member of acclaimed soul collective The Freedom Affair and British rhythm & blues outfit The James Hunter Six. He also serves as the applied organ instructor at Kansas City Kansas Community College, teaching on DeVan's personal Hammond B-3 — passing on the lineage of the instrument with reverence and authenticity.
Joining him is Emily Dix, a Kansas City native who began her jazz career in 2018 and has quickly charmed audiences with her warm interpretations of timeless standards and classics from the Great American Songbook. Known for her expressive delivery and easy rapport with audiences, Emily performs weekly across Kansas City's best jazz rooms.
Monday Night Jam features a 45-minute set from Chris and Emily, followed by an open jam session where all musicians are welcome to sit in. Bring your instrument or just your ears. FREE admission.
