UHURU FILM FESTIVAL IGNITES MOKOPANE WITH #MOGALAKWENAWAVE SCREENING ACTIVATION AT SIESTA MANOR#UhuruFilmFestival, a rising force in African cinema and cultural storytelling, is set to activate Mokopane with a dynamic pre-festival experience titled the #MogalakwenaWave Screening, taking place on Thursday, 28 May 2026 at Siesta Manor & Guesthouse from 17:00. This cultural activation serves as a strategic build-up to the 3rd instalment of the Uhuru Film Festival, scheduled to take place from 24- 27 September 2026, marking another milestone in the festival’s mission to amplify authentic African voices and strengthen the creative economy.
The #MogalakwenaWave Screening is more than a film event, it is a high-impact cultural activation designed to merge film, lifestyle, and community engagement. The evening will showcase a curated selection of short films produced by emerging filmmakers from the Mogalakwena region, offering audiences a powerful reflection of locally rooted stories.
At the heart of this activation is the emergence of the Mokopane Film Wave, a bold, rising movement of storytellers from Mokopane and surrounding areas who are redefining African cinema through authentic, community-driven narratives. This wave represents a new generation of filmmakers capturing the spirit, realities, and aspirations of their communities through innovative and impactful storytelling. In addition to the screenings, the activation will feature live dialogue sessions with filmmakers and creatives, as well as networking opportunities aimed at connecting artists, media practitioners, and industry stakeholders.
Hosted at Siesta Manor & Guesthouse, the activation further positions the venue as a leading lifestyle and cultural destination within Mokopane, reinforcing the role of hospitality spaces in supporting creative industries.
The activation is proudly supported by Siesta Manor & Guesthouse, Mokopane FM, Mogalakwena TV, The Blueprint IT Solution, and No Limit Concepts, reflecting a shared commitment to community development, youth empowerment, and cultural innovation.
