Fresh Mochi Art is proud to present "Moga," a group exhibition featuring seven distinguished artists of Japanese and Japanese-American ancestry: Patti Warashina, Catherine Cross Uehara, Hanako O’Leary, Michelle Kumata, Sakura Davis, Erin Shigaki and Elizabeth Jameson. The exhibition title, Moga, is a Japanese portmanteau for modan gāru (Modern Girl), a term originally used in the 1920s to describe women who challenged traditional Japanese social norms by embracing Westernized fashion and lifestyle.
In this contemporary showcase, these seven artists reclaim and expand the term, using ceramics, drawings, and mixed media to explore the intersection of heritage, gender, and the evolving identity of the modern woman.
