Route description
Moel Famau means ‘Mother Mountain’ in Welsh, and this peak is well named – at 554m (1818ft) it is the highest summit in the Clwydian Range. It sits in the middle of the heather-clad hills of the central part of the Range and offers stunning views across the Vale of Clwyd to Snowdonia and the North Wales coast. One of the best ways to reach it is via Offa’s Dyke National Trail. Topped by the Jubilee Tower this iconic landmark is visible for many miles around.

10:15 - Walk starts
12:30 - Picnic stop, Moel Famau
14:45 - Drinks stop, The Druid Inn, Llanferres
15:15 - Walk restarts
16:00 - Walk finishes, We Three Loggerheads
Meeting location: Loggerheads Country Park, Ruthin Rd, Mold CH7 5LH (outside Caffi Florence)
Parking: Please park at Loggerheads Country Park. There are 90 spaces and all-day parking costs £7. More information here.
Public transport: Unfortunately this walk is challenging to reach via public transport. We might be able to co-ordinate lifts or taxis from the nearest train station, Hawarden (10 miles away).
Toilets: Public toilets at start of walk and we also plan a drinks stop at The Druid's Inn in Llanferes.
Post-walk: You are welcome to join other walkers for refreshments and optional food back at We Three Loggerheads.
