About this Event
East London’s private tattoo studio, The Church of England, will open its doors for the launch of a new fine art photography exhibition by its manager, Purrrmommy. The long-form documentary project, Modern Rituals, launches with a private view on Saturday 13 December and will remain open for viewing for one day on Sunday 14th.
Modern Rituals explores the tattoo studio as a 'third space’, a modern sanctuary for ritual, community, and transformation. Moving beyond the final tattoo, Purrrmommy’s images focus on the intimate, often confessional, relationship between artist and client. The series documents the studio as a space of trust, capturing the quiet moments of concentration, vulnerability, and shared humanity.
The launch night will also debut a limited-edition zine of the project, featuring the photographs from inside The Church of England, including the studio's artists and wider community.
