Modern Retirement Planning (MRP) is an interactive educational workshop designed to help you make informed decisions about your financial future. In a clear and unbiased learning environment, you'll explore strategies to help you define your retirement goals, protect your assets, and build a plan for long-term financial security.
This class focuses on practical concepts and real-world strategies so you can better understand how the pieces of retirement planning fit together.

Course Dates and Times
This course is taught as two engaging 3-hour sessions that build on one another. The classroom format allows time for discussion and learning in a comfortable, educational setting.
The course is being offered at 3 different times at both the SLO Cuesta Campus and the Paso Robles North County campus.

Week 1-Chapter 1: Setting Goals
Info: These are some of the questions that may be discussed in this section: What type of lifestyle do you want in retirement? Will you need more or less money to live out your dreams? Will previous generations' strategies still work in today's environment? What obstacles will challenge the success of your plan? How can you make your "nest egg" more efficient?
Week 1-Chapter 2: Considering The Costs
Info: These are some of the questions that may be discussed in this section: How much will retirement really cost? How do you calculate an allowance for inflation? Have you considered that inflation continues during retirement? What return will you need to meet your goals? How do you know if you are ready to retire?
Week 1-Chapter 3: Nest Egg Sources
Info: These are some of the questions discussed in this section: What are your sources for retirement income? Should "nest egg" money be kept separate from emergency money? What are the taxation and withdrawal rules for each source? Is it better to take Social Security early, on time or delayed? Can you make too much money to contribute to an IRA? Is Roth IRA conversion a good idea?
Week 1-Chapter 4: Estate Planning
Info: These are some of the questions discussed in this section: Who will manage your estate if you become incapacitated? Who will make health care decisions if you are unable? Should you have a will or a trust?
Week 2-Chapter 5: Traditional Investments
Info: These are some of the questions that will be discussed in this section: Which investments meet your objectives? What are some ways to mitigate risk? What is the difference between a stock and bond? Can you lose money in a bond? What is a diversified investment program? How can I design a portfolio that will support me throughout retirement even if a recession occurs?
Week 2-Chapter 6: Non-Traditional Investments
Info: These are some of the questions to be discussed in this section: Where can non-market correlated assets fit into your portfolio? Are they safe? How do non-traditional assets differ from traditional assets?
Week 2-Chapter 7: Protecting your assets
Info: These are some of the questions to be discussed in this section: What type of insurance do you need? Does Medicare cover long-term care? Do you have too much life insurance? How do you know if you are self insured?
Week 2-Chapter 8: Strategies
Info: These are some of the questions discussed in this section: how can I generate more income in retirement without saving a dollar more? What are the best strategies to save on taxes? What actions can I take to increase my chances of reaching my financial goals?
