About this Event

Take a Hike! ...with Black Philadelphia! Join the crew for a hike at the Trexler Preserve in the Lehigh Valley! This is a game preserve to protect bison, elk, and white-tailed deer. We'll be an hour from Philly and get to take in tremendous views of rolling hills AND observe BISON from a Blackfully respectful distance!
*I am willing to drive 3 people with me if you'd like to carpool, but you'll need to meet me in the designated location by 8:15am. I am driving off at 8:15am, so keep that in mind. Post in the comments if you'd like to carpool.*
"Over eighteen miles of trails offer wildlife observation, bird watching, hiking, walking, horseback riding, and mountain biking opportunities for enthusiasts at all levels." We can likely make a day of it if you want to, grabbing lunch or you can check out the Lehigh Valley Zoo.

10:00 a.m. - WE ARE LEAVING! Not kidding...don't miss us!
12:30 p.m. - End of hike (approximately)
We will take the Elk Watching Trail for ~3 miles and do a little more exploring (or eating if you'd like). It'll be worth the drive!
THE HIKE IS CONTINGENT UPON THE WEATHER & MAY BE CANCELLED SHOULD THERE BE LIGHTNING.
A Fun Challenge
If you're looking for a fun challenge, this is it! Nature will be all over you by the time we're done.
This is a great event to talk and get to know other members.
WARNING: Our hike is not a flat-terrain walk like the path along Kelly Drive or the Schuylkill River; this is a moderate hike. The trails variable (paved and crushed gravel) and are hilly, and will take us into wooded areas, so I wouldn't recommend this for someone with serious joint problems. We will take a couple of breaks as we explore and look for wildlife.
Wear sturdy hiking boots/sneakers or regular sneakers with good traction. I don't want to leave a fallen warrior behind, but I will! I'm just sayin'...
Also suggested are a bottle of water and a bite to eat, such as a granola bar, fruit or trail mix. Bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat/scarf are also helpful but not usually necessary. You may just need a light jacket, but be sure to layer, as you will warm up. Bring your EpiPen or inhaler too (better safe than sorry).
Leave the makeup and cologne at home, because we are going to sweat. We might see a cute cyclist, but I promise the chipmunks and deer will NOT be impressed.
You can bring your dog, but please keep them leashed for group members who may be uncomfortable with them.
This is a very popular area that is frequented by people riding bikes, walking dogs, and occasionally riding horses. Just be aware of your surroundings.
