The tribe of scribes and good vibes will gather once again at The Common Earth Company @thecommonearthcompany for ✨Mocha Mic with Millie: Juneteenth Renaissance – A Celebration of Art and Poetry Under the Stars✨
Together, we will honor the history of Juneteenth—the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were finally informed of their freedom in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. ✊🏾📖
Join us outside beneath the summer sky as we celebrate Black artistry, truth-telling, joy, resilience, and community with four incredible local and out-of-state features. 🌙🎤🎨
✨ Features:
🔥 Kenneth Something (@saysomethingpoet) is a Baltimore-based poet, playwright, professor, and organizer best described as an artivist. A multi-national poetry slam champion ranked 3rd best slam poet in the world, Kenneth has spent over 15 years creating at the intersection of art and social justice. 🎤🌍
🎶 Valisha Desir, Esq. (@sing_vali) is an Asbury Park native whose roots in gospel music shaped her passion for performance. From singing throughout school to performing at major legal ceremonies, Valisha continues to let her love for music and storytelling shine through every note. ✨🎵
📖 AVG (@avgpoetry) is a Haitian pastor’s kid born in Massachusetts, raised in Ohio, and now based in Philly. A poet, author, and creative rooted in faith, identity, romance, and social issues, AVG uses poetry as a mirror for healing, ministry, and connection. 🤎✍🏾
🎨 Angiie (@angiie3200) is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary artist who heals through spoken word, music, painting, and writing. Calling herself “the voice of reason for the muted,” her artistry centers expression, empowerment, and emotional truth. 🌺🖌️
🖼️ We are also excited to have our in-house photographer Expressions by MowZus sharing his beautiful and reflective visual art throughout the evening in celebration of Black creativity and storytelling. 📸✨
