Three years. Whew. 🙏🏾✨
What started as a space to amplify Black voices and emerging artists has grown into something deeply intentional. Not just an open mic, but a home. A space where artists are raw. Where vulnerability is honored. Where community is centered. Where we pour into one another and leave fuller than we came. 🎤
And now… Mocha Mic with Millie is turning 3. 🎉
This anniversary feels especially meaningful because we’re celebrating with family. I’m excited to have my brother, our incredible house photographer and a gifted poet, MowZus Baugh aka The World Rules stepping from behind the lens to bless the mic as this year’s co-host. 📸🎙🏾
Over the years this stage has held first-time performers, seasoned storytellers, singers finding new courage, and poets rediscovering their fire. It has held testimonies, laughter, breakthroughs, and moments we will never forget. ✨
We’re gathering to do what we do best come together in artistry and welcome four phenomenal features:
✨ Sincerely L. – New Jersey–raised spoken word artist and author of Sunflower Soldier. A nationally ranked slam poet and proud member of the New Jeru Slam Team, her work centers healing, vulnerability, and truth.
✨ Crystal Davis – Jersey City–born multidisciplinary artist, poet, and author of Elemental Emotions. Co-founder of OpenRoad Poetry and creator of Crystal Letters, she blends visual art and language in powerful, collaborative ways.
✨ Khali Raymond (Savage Writer) – Newark native and author of over 60 titles including Ashes 2 Ashes, Dust 2 Dust. A storyteller who transforms heartbreak, growth, and resilience into compelling narrative.
✨ Brian Acosta Arya (Brian The Motel Guy) – New Jersey–based storyteller, humanitarian, and host at NYC’s legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe. Founder of the viral #FreeRoomForYou initiative, he brings heart, impact, and authenticity to every stage.
