About this Event

Do you want to use your camera phone for work or pleasure? Take better video and images? Learn how to frame shots and better record sound and video? Stop ‘wobblyscope’ and out of focus shots? If yes, then this is the 5 week intensive course for you!

As a videojournalist or VJ, pioneer I can, as your Tutor, show you the way.


It is a practical course with plenty of fun exercises to expand your range and talent from learning how to frame shots, using accessories like external microphones and phone grips, to developing scripts and planning your video, recording and editing on your phone.


So whether you just want to improve your home videos, or want new skills for your job, or want to try going in the field to cover stories- this course will help you prepare and deliver better results.


EXPECTED OUTCOMES:

· Learn about the skills needed for recording:visual awareness, an ‘eye’, technical know-how

· Watch and discuss examples of good and bad video recordings

· See Powerpoints on different shots and recording tips

· Sound recording advice and exercises

· Work on planning a script and filming running order

· Try out shooting ‘vids’ or clips

· Practical advice on editing- which apps to sue, better on your phone or computer

· Look at marketplaces for pitching and selling-in your video stories

· Develop a personal style: pieces to camera- how to do this

· Writing and recording a commentary

· Interviewing people for your video

· Have the Opportunity to share your work with others in the group

· Career advice for aspiring video-journalists

  • Help you think about the kind of storytelling you want to do and your audience
  • Join in discussion and analysis about the problems of recording, how to set about it and prepare and share tips.
  • Think about moral and legal issues recording people and shots
  • Get practical advice on all the steps needed to really improve your skills
  • Learn key steps from developing and planning story ideas to structuring a shooting script before going out to film
  • Use the course time to try out technical tips taught
  • Build your confidence in creative self expression in a friendly and helpful environment
  • Get close to realising your ambitions as a videographer
  • Career advice - facts and suggestions
  • Take away a showreel of ‘vids’
  • Share your work with others in a non-competitive group

ABOUT THE COURSE LEADER:


Vivien Morgan started in broadcast TV journalism working for many of the major network channels including BBC TV, CNBCEurope, ITN and CNN in news, current affairs and business programming. She has extensive print journalism experience as an Editor of supplements for The Telegraph and Journalist for the Sunday Times magazines. A features writer and contributor for many national newspapers, Vivien taught broadcast and online journalism at 3 UK universities, before moving into PR and communications.

Now an Author of 3 books on videojournalism and a history book on cross-dressing women soldiers, she enjoys inspiring others in the art of writing for different platforms and developing their skills.
