In this workshop we will be making a model of a traditional Polynesian outrigger canoe as seen in the Disney movie 'Moana'.This 3 hour, hands-on workshop is designed to take children step-by-step through the construction process where they will learn many new practical skills, such as carving, whittling, stitching, and gluing, and come away with a working toy that will give pride and pleasure for long after the workshop has finished.
The boats are made from flaxwood (an amazing super-light and super-strong natural material) and bamboo, and are joined together using hot glue guns. We use sharp tools such as craft knives, and rasps, and parents will be glad to know that we have sets of cut-proof gloves for each participant.
This is a very fun and popular workshop and is suitable for ages 9 yrs and over, because of the sharp tools and hot glue we are using, but this is negotiable depending on ability. Younger children may attend if accompanied by a parent.
