MND Party in the Park is a community event bringing Brixworth together for a fun summer solstice day while raising money and awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease, Northampton.This charity is very close to my heart. In 2020, I raised money for MND in memory of a friend, and now I’m organising this event for my lovely, courageous Dad; Pat Davitt, who has been diagnosed with MND. Whilst he remains positive, strong and determined, seeing the effects of this cruel disease first-hand reinforces just how important events like this are.
MND doesn’t just affect movement, it slowly takes away everyday independence. Things most of us never think twice about, like getting out of bed, washing, dressing, communicating, or even eye movement, become daily challenges. Equipment such as specialist beds, stair lifts, neck braces, hand and arm supports, wheelchairs and eye-gaze technology quickly become essential. The simplest parts of life that we all take for granted are gradually and cruelly taken away.
But this day is also about celebration. It feels long overdue for Brixworth to have a proper community party, a chance to enjoy live music, local stalls, food, laughter and time together in the park. By combining a relaxed, family friendly event with fundraising and awareness, we can support an incredibly important cause while celebrating the community spirit of Brixworth
