**Beginner Friendly BYP**
Qualifiers will use a 1 point spot and make-it-take-it handicap for teams with a beginner player (TD discretion on this handicap)
We will use the Appleton point spot handicapping system in the bring 3/5's to keep the games fun and competitive. (Details available at the event)
- Swiss BYP matches will be given priority when the events are running concurrently
------------------------------------------
Swiss BYP:
Our pilot of this format in November was quite successful so we will test this again for future large tournaments.
TBD for future 'monthly's based on player feedback.
Qualifier Rounds: Each BYP team is guaranteed 4 race to 7 qualifiers. Playoff teams and seeding is based on performance in those qualifiers.
Playoffs: 4 team playoff if 9 teams or fewer.
8 team playoff if more than 10 teams.
16 teams MAXIMUM for this qualifier. (Safest way to guarantee a spot is to DM me in advance). If you text me your team in advance we can pre-register many of the teams.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Handicap BYP:
With 12 or fewer teams we will run this 'mega BYP style'. A little like a golf tournament. Each team will be guaranteed 4 (2 game) matches. Opponents at random via kicker tool or HOT.
Top three records by GAME wins get 1st-3rd. All ties for 1st-3rd will be honored with a share of the pot.
Games are default to 5 with the following handicap structure:
6 - Master
5 - Pro
4 - Expert
3 - Amateur
2 - Rookie
1 - Beginner*
*Default rank is your highest rank by either IFP or HOT point system in last 5 years. TD discretion on non ranked, or under-ranked players (if you have multiple state or major titles at or above your rank, you will likely be bumped up). I promise it will be no better a system than the actual ranking systems. 😉
Ranks will be posted and confirmed during sign ups. Feel free to ask me in advance if you're curious. IFP/HOT beginners with more than 2 years of local tourney play will be ranked as Rookies.
Roughly, for every 2 point difference in Team Handicap
the higher team is playing to a higher score by an additional point.
1-2 difference: higher teams play to 6
3-4 difference: higher team plays to 7
5-6 difference: higher team plays to 8
7-8 difference: higher team plays to 9
9+: higher team plays to 9 and beginner team gets drop on every ball. Are we seriously having 2 masters team up in this thing???
Examples:
A 5 handicap (am/rookie) versus an 8 (ex/ex), the 8 team is playing to 7.
A 2 handicap (Beg/Beg) versus a 7 (Pro/rookie)
If more than 12 teams enter at 7:30, Swiss BYP finalists will become ineligible (sorry to your second partner) and we shift to a three match qualifier and top 4 single elim 2/3 K.O. starting at roughly 11 pm.
