The Durham Museum is proud to offer free admission to the community on Monday, January 19, 10AM-4PM, to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Join the museum as we highlight MLK's legacy and message of peace, tolerance, community service and an inclusive, hopeful future for all.• Special appearance by Mayor John Ewing, who will have introductory remarks around 10:45AM
• Preston Love Jr., with a children's book reading of "Your Bridge to History"
• Dr. Amy Forss with a children's book reading of "Newspapers & Butter Pecan Ice Cream: Mrs. Mildred Brown and the Omaha Star"
• Musical performance by the Mandela Elementary Orchestra at 11AM
• A poetry reading by Zariah Champlin at 1PM
• Screenings of MLK speeches and PBS docuseries "Eyes on the Prize" throughout the day
• An MLK-inspired scavenger hunt
We are also thrilled and honored to welcome these community partners: Great Plains Black History Museum, The Union for Contemporary Art, Malcolm X Foundation, North Omaha Music and Arts and Nebraska Writers Collective (including poet reading by Zariah Champlin).
