Each year, 7th-12th grade students in Omaha area schools are invited to participate in the Martin Luther King, Jr. “Living the Dream” competition. The goals of the program include: (1) provide a meaningful experience for students on the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday, (2) encourage students to write original compositions that encourage greater humanity for the community, (3) foster social justice change agents, and (4) be an active partner in the citizenship education of young learners.Submissions might take various forms, including, but not limited to, poetry, music, dance, visual arts, or other forms of cultural and artistic expression. The goal of this program is to offer local young people the opportunity to speak in their own unique, authentic voices.
Doors open at 5:00pm.
Show starts at 5:30pm.
The event MC will be Houston Alexander!
The words shared at this event will be powerful and deeply moving. Whether you’re a performer, family member, or friend, support is here for you. Tia Manning, a licensed mental health professional, will be on site to speak with anyone who would like to connect during the event.
This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! This will be a hybrid event, with both in-person and virtual attendance available (link available at a later time).
We would like to thank Omaha Performing Arts for being a partner throughout the years. We'd also like to thank the Omaha Community Playhouse for opening their doors for our students for our dress rehearsal.
