Every year the MLC Adult hockey tournament chooses a family to honor during their Friday night benefit game, this year we have chosen sweet Emersyn Perdue. Join us for a night of food, beverages, hockey, basket raffles and more to help this brave little girl on her heart journey!
Here is Emersyn's story:
Emersyn’s heart journey began at our 20-week anatomy scan, when we learned she was going to be born with a complex congenital heart defect called tricuspid atresia. From that moment on, our world shifted. Before she ever took her first breath, we knew she would face challenges that most children never have to worry about. What followed has been a series of milestones that has required a lot of strength from her.
So far, she has undergone four cardiac catheterizations, three of them being interventional, and two open-heart surgeries; the second of which was urgent and unplanned. Along the way she suffered a stroke and has blown us away during her recovery. She is currently on the Fontan pathway, a staged surgical approach for children with single-ventricle heart defects. Through every procedure, setback, and recovery, Emersyn has shown resilience beyond her years. While her journey has been marked by medical complexity, it has also been defined by courage, determination, and a spirit that continues to inspire us every single day. Half a heart but twice the fight.
