About this Event

All of our workshops mean a lot to me (Ragini), but this one holds special significance. My family is from Madhubani, Bihar, and this art form has been challenging patriarchal norms for centuries, yet remains relatively unknown beyond its birthplace.

Today, both men and women use the same natural pigments as our ancestors (made from fruit, flowers, haldi, and rice paste). Beyond its contribution to preserving folklore and local histories, Madhubani art plays a vital role in community building. In many villages, Mithila painting is a collective endeavour which brings people together to create large-scale murals, covering the walls of communal spaces, temples, and public buildings.

We’ll learn Mithila art techniques to make hand-painted tote bags. We’re also excited to partner with Chai Guys and provide their signature masala chai at this event!
