Christmas - a time to wine, dine and be merry! And boy have we got a cracker of a two-hour wine tasting in store for you.
About this Event

When the time of the year arrives where the air turns crips and the smell of hot chocolate and cinnamon fills the streets once again, we know it’s time to whip out the winter wines.

Join us at Humble Grape Crouch End and taste the lovely and heart-warming wines we are hot for when the temperature drops. After a welcome drink, join our wine team in tasting six glasses of deep, creamy wines ranging from full-bodied reds to winter whites.

What you'll be tasting:

Weingut Würtzberg, Saar Riesling, 2023, Mosel, Germany

Brings exactly what its name already suggests into the glass: a Riesling with the typical taste of the terroir - the slate. This Riesling is a textbook expression of the Saar, shaped by steep slopes and the region’s signature slate soils. Crisp, focused, and full of energy, it captures the unique character of its terroir with clarity and finesse. A vibrant, mineral-driven white that’s all about precision, purity, and place.

David Bienfait Pouilly-Fuissé 'Les Crays' 2022, Mâconnais, Burgundy, France

David Bienfait makes Pouilly-Fuissé the way your gran makes Sunday roast - with proper technique passed down through generations. His 2022 'Les Crays' comes from 80-year-old vines that have been getting on with business since 1940. Citrus, white flowers, and that limestone backbone Premier Cru Burgundy does best.

Winzer Familie Gregor Schup, Pinot Noir, 2016, Thermenregion, Austria

The Schup family's been perfecting Pinot on Austria's Eichkogel mountain for 300 years - which explains why this 2015 tastes like they've finally cracked the code. Silky red fruit meets earthy minerality from vines grown on protected biosphere land where Atlantic dampness crashes into Eastern European warmth. It's what happens when six generations refuse to cut corners and mother nature gets legally protected status. Pure liquid family obsession in a bottle

Turning Tide, AJ Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi/Santa Ynez Valley, California, US

A classic Cali Cab. This is rich, dark and smooth, full of ripe blackberries, a bit of spice, and the kind of balance that makes a second glass feel like a good idea. If you like bold reds but want something that still feels fresh, this is a solid pick.

Cantina Ronca Ulderico Rosso 2018, Veneto, Italy

Amarone’s hipster brother. This cannot technically be called Amarone because it is made from rogue grapes and it lives on the wrong side of the tracks, but the Ulderico Rosso - made in an appassimento-style - is as good as any Amarone we’ve tried. With its minimalist bottle, its winemaking in conversion to organic and its thoroughly modern flavour, we wouldn’t be surprised if you peered through the glass and saw tattoos beneath.

Quinta do Noval Late Bottled Vintage, Douro Valley, Portugal

This one’s done the old-school way – noble grapes grown on the estate, stomped by foot, bottled unfiltered. Where most LBVs are wrapped up after a couple of years, this one gets five in cask to stretch its legs. The result? Deep, structured, and full of dark fruit, but still fresh enough to keep things lively. Tannins are smooth, finish is long, and it lands somewhere between classic and casual. A proper LBV that’s had a bit more time, care, and attention – and it shows in the glass.
