On the heels of the wildly successful run of FPCT’s Baltimore Premiere of Miss Holmes in 2024, we are thrilled to bring back original cast members, Sharon Maguire and Emma Grace Dunbar as the classic duo-with-a-twist, Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson! In this stunning sequel to the original Miss Holmes, which saw Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic characters reinvented as women in a Victorian-era England that was not ready for them to take on “men’s work,” Holmes and Watson have been playing the game for several years and have gained quite a reputation as they seek the elusive criminal mastermind known only as “The Professor.” So, when a nurse and activist finds herself on the run, wanted for murder, and threatened by sinister figures from the shadowy criminal underworld, she turns to Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson for help. Miss Holmes Returns explores feminist themes using the classic mystery characters, historical settings and tropes created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to explore the added challenges and risks faced by these iconic characters if they were women. The production is helmed by FPCT Managing Director, Brad Norris, who directed the first Miss Holmes in 2024 and recently produced Hamlet/Black Parade and Caesar/Americana with Motte & Bailey, prod. “I could not be more thrilled to return to this world, with these characters, and so many of the original cast members,” says Director, Brad Norris. “The first production was an amazing introduction, but with Return, Christopher Walsh gives us so much more depth and excitement as we jump right into a classic Holmes-style adventure that is going to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. It really is the Empire Strikes Back of this series, and I can’t wait to take people on this ride!” Christopher M. Walsh (he/him) is a playwright and performer based in Chicago, IL. He is a member of the artistic ensemble at Lifeline Theatre, a member of the Dramatists Guild, and a member of SAG-AFTRA. He was nominated for a Jeff Award in 2014 for his adaptation of A Tale of Two Cities, and his radio play Fracture Zone won the coveted Bloody Axe Award in WildClaw Theatre’s 2014 Deathscribe Festival of horror radio plays. Miss Holmes Returns was originally produced by the Greater Boston Stage Company in April 2022. After a workshop and extensive rewrites, the play opened in its current form at Lifeline Theatre in Chicago in September 2022.
Opening night for Miss Holmes Returns is Friday, April 24 at 8pm, with a special Pay-What-You-Can preview performance on Thursday, April 23.
