About this Event

Mino Bimaadiziwin (5-Part Series) - Part 4: Gaabi'anong (West)

Join the Sophia Hilton Foundation of Canada for Mino Bimaadiziwin, a powerful five-part series exploring Anishinaabe worldview, teachings, and storytelling based on the Four Directions.

๐ŸŒฟ Session 4: Gaabi'anong (West)

As we continue the cycle of the sun and life, we come to the western direction that teaches us about maturity and being prepared for winter. The West teaches us about relationships and responsibilities in our role as adults. Through traditional stories and characters such as Pauguk the rattling skeleton, the three women who dreamed of marrying stars, and a story about a mermaid, we can learn about love and the balance between men and women.

This engaging presentation offers insight into Indigenous knowledge systems, storytelling traditions, and timeless lessons that remain deeply relevant today.

๐ŸŽค Featuring: Dr. Jennifer Meness

Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and Professor of Indigenous Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University, Dr. Meness brings deep knowledge, lived experience, and an accessible teaching style that welcomes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences.

๐Ÿงต Special Setting

Held in an intimate gallery environment featuring stunning textile art created by Master Anishinaabe Quilt Designer Alice Williams from Red Lake First Nation, this event offers a uniquely immersive cultural experience.
