Hello Sioux Falls area A/E/C professionals!Sorry for the late notice, but this opportunity appeared very quickly! I took a private tour of this facility earlier this week and decided the entire group needs to see it!
Our group is thrilled to announce our next tour of the season - the Minnehaha Juvenile Detention Center located at 4200 S West Ave in Sioux Falls. Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 1st at 4:00p.
A new regional Juvenile Justice Center would replace an aging facility first built in 1969 with two remodelings and expansions since (The last was in 1997).
The first phase of the project will include new housing, intake, medical, kitchen and mechanical areas. A pod-type arrangement for juvenile beds is expected to help improve safety for the young people and the staff. The old building will then be torn down and the second phase would start in August of 2025 and would involve the courtroom and probation part of the project. That would free up more space in the current county courthouse in downtown Sioux Falls and would last just over a year and be completed by November of 2026.
Please remember to bring your PPE gear! We will not need hard hats this time, but please wear your high-viz jackets. Cipher Imaging will provide the first round of beverages at the 18th Amendment after the tour!
Sincerely,
