The Virginia Caples Lifelong Learning Institute, in partnership with TARCOG, Oak Street Health, AAMU Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program, and Dementia Friendly Alabama, offers the Minding Your Mind: Building Empathy and Awareness Through the Dementia Experience.
This interactive and engaging program is designed to deepen understanding of dementia and cognitive decline among students, caregivers, and practitioners. Through guided activities, sensory-based simulations, and reflective discussion, participants gain meaningful insight into what it may feel like to live with dementia.
The dementia experience features Virtual Dementia Tours, VR goggle simulations, memory screenings, an expert-led presentation, and an immersive Memory Café. Together, these activities help participants explore the daily challenges faced by individuals living with dementia while learning practical strategies to provide compassionate, effective support and discovering key resources available to assist family caregivers.
