In support of the exhibition Mapping the Heavens: Art, Astronomy, and Exchange between the Islamic Lands and Europe, this program invites participants to slow down and reflect on the wonder of the cosmos through the lens of poetry and mindfulness.Inspired by Tracy K. Smith’s Pulitzer Prize-winning collection Life on Mars, in which the vastness of the mysterious universe serves as a backdrop to explore existential questions about what it means to exist, grieve, and be present in the moments of everyday life—participants will be guided through a contemplative session by Amy Zoe Schonhoff, founder of Mindfulness in the Heartland, that will incorporate Smith's poetry, mindfulness practices, and reflective journaling.
