About this Event
Begin your day with a mindful, guided walk with Pasadena Humane Wildlife expert, Lauren Hamlett, through Hahamongna Watershed Park (meeting at JPL Bridge). Each walk will explore a different ecological theme, offering space for observation, conversation, and connection to the landscape.
This month's walk and talk will be seed focused and co-led by Lauren Hamlett, Director of Pasadena Humane’s Wildlife Education and Services, and Nina Raj, founder of Altadena Seed Library.
Altadena Seed Library is a growing constellation of seed education and conservation resources. Their mission is to expand equitable access to shade and green spaces, increase food sovereignty, foster community connection, and rekindle relationships with our nonhuman neighbors.
In addition to regenerating urban lands, they aim to conserve wildland seeds and build capacity for seed stewardship by introducing a decentralized network of seed banks at local nature centers. Following the Eaton Fire, they are supporting health and resilience by providing bioremediation assistance to affected residents at burned lots and contaminated community gardens, and offering seed-centric mutual aid.Attendees will observe and engage with native plants and their seeds, and learn about the incredible power of these often overlooked living beings. No equipment is needed, but handheld lenses are helpful for observing these tiny miracles.
