About this Event
The inaugural Mincéir/Traveller Pride event at University of Limerick (UL) is designed as a vibrant, inclusive gathering that centres and uplifts Traveller voices across Limerick City and County.
The event is about visibility, representation, and celebration. It brings together UL, the Limerick Traveller Network (LTN), and a wider network of Traveller advocacy groups to create a collaborative space where Traveller identity, culture, and lived experiences are recognised and honoured.
The programme will feature a rich mix of engaging and creative contributions. Current Traveller students at UL will share their stories and perspectives, offering insight into navigating education while maintaining cultural identity. Alongside this, a series of “lightning talks” with Traveller-led organisations will not only highlight grassroots work, activism, and community initiatives, but will also mark the official launch of the Limerick Travellers Together Community of Practice, an important step in strengthening collaboration and shared learning across Limerick City and County.
The event will also include songs, poetry, and interactive stands showcasing the work, creativity, and achievements of the Traveller community ensuring a powerful cultural and artistic dimension to the day.
A key highlight will be guest talks from Social media influencers Shane McCarthy and Mikey McCarthy (also known as Konya), who will speak about their personal experiences and what being a Traveller means to them. These contributions are intended to deepen understanding, challenge stereotypes, and foster meaningful dialogue.
Importantly, the event is grounded in the idea of looking back while moving forward honouring the history, resilience, and traditions of the Traveller community, while embracing change and the voices of a new generation. It celebrates individuality within the community, while recognising the strength and connection found in a shared culture, identity, and ethnicity.
Overall, Traveller Pride at UL is not just an event it’s a statement of presence, pride, and progress, bringing together community, education, advocacy, and culture in one space.
