BIO:
Mina Nystad is a vocalist, composer, singer-songwriter and pianist from the south-east of Norway. She released her 10-track debut-album in June, 2024, which in the words of composer Chris Johnson is “tender, yet forceful; intimate, yet expansive. Mina’s smoky, agile voice firmly places her music within the jazz tradition, yet she imbues it with modern soul elements.”
Mina’s music embodies heartfelt and honest storytelling. Blending jazz, singer/songwriter and folk influences, she draws inspiration from the Great American Songbook and the old soul, folk and pop classics to contemporary jazz. A recent graduate and scholarship recipient of Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory, Mina holds degrees in jazz composition and jazz vocal performance. Over the last few years, she has played her original music in Boston and New York, several festivals and venues in Norway, such as the Kongsberg Jazz festival and Hagefestivalen – as well as opened for and played with notable Norwegian artists such as Mathias Eick, Sondre Lerche, Silya and Silje Nergaard.
Mina is bringing her band of cherished friends and musicians to the Monkfish. Look forward to a unique listening experience, featuring an array of original music, arrangements of some of Mina’s favorite songs and jazz standards, as well as interpretations of Norwegian traditional songs.
