Welcome to your cheese era.We’re celebrating one of Wisconsin’s most iconic flavors with Milwaukee’s first-ever Cheese Swap. It also happens to kick off the next phase of the Milwaukee Gold Rush, which has recently taken a turn into “there are cheese-shaped sculptures hidden around the city and some might have cash inside.”
Join us at The New Fashioned on Friday, May 8 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and ease into the experience the way any reasonable person would. By trading cheese with strangers promptly at 12:00 PM CDT.
Here’s how it works. You bring a wedge. You leave with a different wedge. Ideally, both wedges are delicious.
A quick but important note on cheese standards. Your contribution must be store-bought and sealed. This is not the moment for your experimental batch, your basement-aged creation, or anything you have described to friends as “still developing.” We believe in you. Just not for this event.
While you’re there, you can play a few games from Bars and Recreation, grab a grilled cheese sample from The New Fashioned mobile kitchen, and pour yourself something from the 50 tap self-pour wall. At some point, you may start thinking about the fact that somewhere in Milwaukee, there are cheese-inspired sculptures sitting quietly, possibly containing money, waiting for someone to find them.
That is the Milwaukee Gold Rush.
Thousands of people are already playing. And now the hunt is getting bigger as it builds toward the Grand Finale on June 5.
If you leave this event simply with better cheese, that’s a win. If you leave and immediately start scanning the city for suspiciously artistic cheese objects, that’s also a win.
