The Milligan University Concert Choir and Heritage, a select a cappella ensemble, will present an inspiring program titled “Shelter in a Time of Storm” on their 2026 Spring Tour. Both groups will perform a variety of songs that explore God’s provision and protection through the storms of life. Selections sung by the Concert Choir include “The Lord is My Shepherd” by John Rutter, “All Things New” by Elaine Hagenberg, and an arrangement of “Great Day” by Stacey V. Gibbs. In addition, the Heritage set includes “His Eye is on the Sparrow”, arranged by Ben Bram, “Espiritu de Dios” by Brian Tate, and “River” by Jordan Feliz.
The Concert Choir is an auditioned ensemble that proudly upholds a long tradition of choral excellence as the main touring choir of Milligan University. The biennial spring break tour has taken the choir throughout the United States, with recent tours to the Midwest, Florida, and the Mid-Atlantic. In addition, the choir maintains an active performance schedule on campus with regular collaborations with the Milligan Orchestra, the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra, and the Symphony of the Mountains. In the past, the choir has performed at the invitation of the President at the National Prayer Breakfast and also on international tours to England, Ireland, and Mexico. In addition, the choir has been invited to sing at the North American Christian Convention, the Conference on World Evangelism—National Missionary Convention, and the Tennessee State Conference of the American Choral Directors’ Association.
Heritage is a highly selective a cappella ensemble that travels extensively throughout Northeast Tennessee and the broader region representing Milligan University. With over 40 years of tradition, Heritage is frequently sought out by church and community groups for their distinctive performances. The ensemble specializes in many styles of a cappella music, from modern worship music, sacred classics, and spirituals to pop a cappella, Broadway, and vocal jazz.
Both the Concert Choir and Heritage are led by Dr. Noah DeLong, Professor of Music at Milligan. He teaches a wide range of courses including applied voice, aural skills, conducting, and secondary music methods. Outside of his work at the university, DeLong is the Artistic Director of the Appalachian Men’s Ensemble (AMEn) and the Grandview Christian Church Choir, both of Johnson City, TN. He earned the D.M.A. degree in Choral Conducting and Pedagogy from The University of Iowa, where he studied with Dr. Timothy Stalter, and also holds degrees from Taylor University and Ball State University.
