About this Event
Mill Creek Healing Park: Over a decade ago, a small group of neighbours and community members began growing food in a plot just off of Whyte Avenue. Today, they refer to this greenspace as the future home of The Mill Creek Healing Park (MCHP).
The MCHP project aims to transform an underutilized, publicly owned green space in Edmonton into a place where community can gather and grow food.
The Healing Park is more than just a community garden, the Mill Creek Healing Park will provide an opportunity to build community in a safe space, improve naturalization build biodiversity, and strengthen reconciliation.
We are working to design an inclusive, healing space for all, especially Indigenous communities who want to engage in traditional practices and land-based education.
Join us on this special night of sharing and learn the story of how small groups of neighbours have transformed this corner of Ritchie over the past decade.
Presented by New Grocery Movement
(NGM) is a Canadian nonprofit organization working to shift power in the grocery sector back to the local level by building a grassroots movement to reimagine groceries. The New Grocery Movement runs an accessible community garden program located in the Millcreek Healing Park greenspace.
NGM is committed to supporting this project and securing a long-term home for the community garden.
NGM oversees the Mill Creek Healing Park Advisory Board (MCHP AB), and is responsible for guiding this project through the City of Edmonton's Community-Led Construction Process. The MCHP AB is a team of passionate community members that are dedicating their time to bringing the garden to life.
Many members of the NGM already enjoy gardening in this space today.
We hope that you will join us for this informative evening. Bring your questions and curiosity.
