In the British Military Saber class we shall practice aspects of Mr. Taylors Ten Lessons whose work was printed in “The Art of Defense on Foot” by C. Roworth in 1804. Mr. Taylor was a celebrated fencing instructor of his day as the Sword Master to the Light Horse Volunteers of London and Westminster. In addition “The Art of Defense on Foot” was a manual designed to incorporate Scottish Broadsword, Spadroon, and Saber into one system. Any of these sword types are welcome in this class.Instead of repeating each lesson in its entirety as originally printed, in class we will use Taylors Ten Lessons as a framework to zero in on skills we can learn from each original lesson. The aim is to use modern methodologies of instruction instead of 18th Century military line drill. By doing so each fencer can learn more than just wrote muscle memory tactics but have a deeper understanding of saber fencing principles. In this class students should expect to learn:
Managing Distance through proper footwork
Understanding each defensive guard and its applications
Practicing advantageous attacks from all quarters
Strategies for winning with the Saber
Increase dexterity and stamina
Learn to think under pressure
We hope you will join us for the most epic swashbuckling class time adventure!
