About this Event
Operation Tamar was established 30 years ago as Rwanda was recovering from civil war and genocide, and in August 1994 an Australian Defence Force Contingent was despatched to Rwanda. The operation was to provide medical support to the existing United Nations Assistance Mission in Rwanda II (UNAMIR II) and over 700 Australian military personnel were deployed to support these peacekeeping efforts.
Colonel Robyn White RAAMC will discuss the historical events that led to the genocide, the United Nations operation, and her own personal experience. Robyn has been in the Army/Army Reserves for over 35 years, as a musician, nurse and doctor. During that time she was deployed to Rwanda, the Middle East and Afghanistan. She is currently the senior health advisor at the Headquarters 2nd (Australian Division), and in her civilian life Robyn is a General Practitioner.
