(French to follow) Join us for a literary evening as award-winning author Mikhail Iossel reads from his new book Sentence, released in August by Linda Leith Publishing. The reading will take place at Bar Kabinet, 98 B Laurier Avenue Ouest, and will be followed by a discussion and Q + A.
Mikhail Iossel was born in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia), where he worked as an electromagnetic engineer and belonged to an organization of samizdat writers before immigrating to the United States in 1986. He is the author, along with Sentence, of Love Like Water, Love Like Fire (winner of the 2021 QWF Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction), Notes from Cyberground: Trumpland and My Old Soviet Feeling. Founding director of the Summer Literary Seminars international literary programs, he is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, and his stories and essays have also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Foreign Policy, Best American Short Stories, and elsewhere. A Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Arts, and Stegner Fellow, Iossel has taught in universities throughout the United States and is associate professor of English at Concordia University in Montreal.

Mikhail Iossel est né à Leningrad, en URSS (aujourd'hui Saint-Pétersbourg, en Russie), où il a travaillé comme ingénieur en électromagnétisme et a appartenu à une organisation d'écrivains samizdat avant d'immigrer aux États-Unis en 1986. Il est l'auteur, avec Sentence, de Love Like Water, Love Like Fire (lauréat du prix QWF Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan de fiction 2021), Notes from Cyberground: Trumpland et My Old Soviet Feeling. Directeur fondateur des programmes littéraires internationaux Summer Literary Seminars, il contribue régulièrement au New Yorker. Ses nouvelles et essais ont également été publiés dans le New York Times Magazine, Foreign Policy, Best American Short Stories, et ailleurs. Titulaire d'une bourse Guggenheim, d'une bourse National Endowment for the Arts et d'une bourse Stegner, Iossel a enseigné dans des universités partout aux États-Unis et est professeur associé d'anglais à l'Université Concordia à Montréal.
