“Chasing Yonder Star with a Lonesome Guitar…”Storyteller Mike Plume makes his way back to the prairies after a year-long absence from the stage, stopping at the legendary King Eddy on March 21.
Once the dogged road warrior, travelling from coast to coast, overseas, and across borders, Mike has stepped back to take more time to analyze his place in the music industry.
“The future ain’t what it used to be, and every couple of years or so, I think, ‘Welp, that’s it. Cheque, please! I manage to convince myself that I won’t ever write, record, or tour again. But in the back of my mind, the urge to see the sunrise on a stretch of highway I’ve never been on before is too strong to ignore. ‘Every now and then, it seems, the road is in my dreams. Chasing yonder star with a Lonesome Guitar...’ Truer words I’ve never written,” says Mike.
Mike Plume is pure Canadiana. We are united by his lyrics; they are the ultimate IYKYK for Canadians:
"...Me and my wife and kids, we all sing along, driving around Moncton town, singing the Hockey Song..." (So Long, Stompin’ Tom)
"...Rolling north on 63, and pulling into McMurray, and Easterners are all you see..." (Coming Home Again (Hey Hey, What D’ya Say))
"...Lost a wheel in Ontario, and didn’t know until it passed us by, and on the Trans Canada highway, a five-point turn ain’t something one should try..." (Me and Ern)
"...It said ‘Wild Rose Country’, it brought me back home and suddenly, I just needed to be back ‘neath that Prairie sky..." (Red & White Blues)
And of course, almost every line of the second Canadian anthem, including: "...No matter where you go in this rugged land, there’s one thing we all understand: Every woman, every child, and man - 8:30 Newfoundland..." (8:30 Newfoundland (This is Our Home))
Will this be another upswing of recording and touring? Or is this just a March winter tour through the Canadian Prairies to remind himself why musicians really shouldn’t tour through the Canadian Prairies for a March winter tour?
Only time will tell.
