Cpl. Mike Hutter’s Celebration of Life-

We will be hosting a community-wide Celebration of Life for Mike Hutter, who served as a law enforcement officer for the City of Sandpoint, the City of Ponderay, and Bonner County.
Mike served our community for nearly 40 years as a law enforcement officer. His career in law enforcement began in 1987 as a Bonner County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy, and he was hired as a full-time deputy in 1988. In 1990, he transferred to the Sandpoint Police Department as a Patrol Officer. In 1997, Mike was selected as the Chief of Police for the City of Ponderay, where he served until 2016, when he retired. After a six-day retirement, Chief Hutter was hired, once again as a Patrol Officer with the Sandpoint Police Department, where he served faithfully until he passed away on October 16th, 2025.
Mike truly enjoyed being an officer in this community, and it brought him great joy to serve each and every day. He believed that being an officer was about customer service, and 99.9 percent of the time, the people he encountered were good people just having a bad day.
