About this Event

Alliance Gallery is pleased to present Migration, a regional juried exhibition focusing on Migration, a defining force of both human history and the natural world. It can be understood as movement across land and borders, shifts within ecosystems, or personal journeys of change, memory, and belonging. Juror: Sarah Berry. Sarah is an independent curator, multi-disciplinary artist, and community builder. She holds a MS in Arts Administration from Boston University. As a curator, Sarah ensures that art belongs everywhere - in traditional settings and in unexpected places. She currently serves as the Curator for both the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA, and the Bodzin Art Gallery in Fairfax, VA.
In her creative practice, she uses upcycled, crowd-sourced items more often than new ones, and emphasizes her care for the environment in her process and artwork. Her fine art photography has been published by the Smithsonian Institution and The Boston Globe, and her murals can be enjoyed throughout the DMV.

This exhibition invites DC Metro Area artists (all media/career stages) to explore migration through their own lens. Interpretations may be literal or abstract, personal or observational, historical or contemporary. Artists might consider evolving landscapes, migration patterns, changing communities, or experiences of movement, transition, and transformation. This theme could be interpreted socially or politically, or through nature and place. There is no single definition of migration, and no single way to respond.
