Class covers:
- An introduction to Welding.
- Discuss common welding processes including:
- Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG)
- Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
- Safety First: Emphasis on safety gear, including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and appropriate clothing. Discuss safe workshop practices, proper ventilation, and potential hazards.
- Introduction to the equipment, including welding machines, electrodes, filler materials, shielding gases, and clamps.
- Hands-on practice with basic joints like butt joints, lap joints.
- A basic understanding of how welding affects metals, the heat-affected zone, and potential defects.
- Learn how to the visually inspect welds, looking for defects, and understanding basic welding.
- Hands-On Practice: Guided session on scrap metal to get comfortable with the welding process.
- Conclusion and Further Learning: Recap and discuss next steps, advanced courses.
This is a basic overview. The specific details and depth of each topic may vary based on the class, instructor, and duration.
All materials needed are included in the class fee. We provide welding helmets, safety glasses and gloves -- if you have your own protective welding equipment (helmet, jacket, gloves, etc.), feel free to bring them.
Minors must be at least 12 years old and are required to be accompanied by an adult who also has a paid ticket to the class.
Required Dress: closed-toe shoes, denim pants with no holes or frills, cotton long-sleeve shirt (preferably dark).
NOTE: Guests are asked to be on time for events. If the safety briefing is missed, the guest will not be able to join the class and no refunds will be given.
