About this Event
For most of its history Melbourne has been a bastion of the powerful vampiric conspiracy known as the Camarilla and, despite recent years of turmoil, it continues to rule over the Kindred of the World's Most Liveable City.
But the Camarilla has enemies from within and without, and the leadership of Prince Malleus King is new and untested. Some claim that the Malkavian called Eclipse undermines him from the shadows. Others mention reports of Anarch attacks against the court of Sydney and the disappearance of Sir George. Others merely point to Adelaide, where a Toreador Prince rules instead of the Clan of Kings.
But if this statuesque ruler has feet of clay, it still has an iron will. Prince King has demanded those under his aegis attend him, for there are debts outstanding, rewards uncredited, and crimes unpunished. All under the protection of the Prince of Melbourne are expected to attend.
However, some who claim that protection may prove to be most unexpected…
Premise
Midnight in Melbourne: XIII is a casual live-action roleplay set in Melbourne's vampire society based on the world of Vampire: the Masquerade. No experience with the setting or with roleplaying is necessary, but a session of Dungeons & Dragons, improv theatre sports, or a M**der mystery party is somewhere close to what you can expect.
This event follows from our last, but it is not necessary to have attended it nor any of our other events to enjoy this one (participants who have attended previous events may be able to portray characters from them with approval). No experience with the event's systems are necessary (a simplified custom system will be in use with an even simpler version available for new or reserved participants).
This event focuses on crimes, commitments, conspiracies, consequences, and the awful realisation that one has fallen into something far beyond one's ability to fathom yet alone control. Political persecution and violence are expected and encouraged.
Proudly created in collaboration with Sub Club.
Finger-food available at intermission (GF and vegan options available, though not all requirements or preferences may be accomodated).
Attire and Costuming
It is recommended to "dress like a vampire." Your style of dress will determine which faction you will be cast into:
- The proud Clan Ventrue are the aristocrats and self-appointed rulers of vampire society. Costumes of a regal, classy, sophisticated, or dignified nature will be cast here.
- The enigmatic Clan Malkavian are an insane collection of seers, prophets, and psychopaths. Costumes of an eccentric, medical, or unclassifiable nature will be placed here. (NOTE: Malkavian characters will be given firm direction as we are actively trying to avoid comical characters; it can be offensive to some and can damage the tone of the event.)
- The secretive Clan Nosferatu are monstrous of appearance, but respected for their knowledge and insight. Costumes that are scary, creepy, dirty, or disgusting will be cast here.
- The sorcerous Clan Tremere are a highly disciplined lodge of warlocks. Costumes of an esoteric, legal, mysterious, or occult nature may be cast here.
- For the first time, a faction of non-vampires are available. The strange and alien Spider Folk are impassive and deadly shapeshifters who feed on blood much like the Kindred but are in no way related to them and have their own mysterious reasons for reaching out to the undead. Costumes that specifically reference spiders and webbing will be cast here. (NOTE: sue to the high likelihood of triggering arachnophobic reactions, we request that performers employ costumes that can cover and conceal spider features when they are not actively being employed during dramatic scenes).
Media to consider when dressing include many classic vampire films and TV shows including Interview With The Vampire, Blade, The Lost Boys, From Dusk Til Dawn, True Blood, Twilight, Underworld, Angel, and (probably most accurately) What We Do In The Shadows.
Please avoid weapon props, especially those that look realistic.
